Working on the writing itself

The Paraphraser rewrites a paragraph so it reads more naturally - clearer phrasing, better flow, your meaning intact. It works best between 50 and 150 words at a time; hand it a whole section and the output averages toward one register, which is the flatness you were trying to remove. It needs an account, because each rewrite is a real language-model call, and the free plan covers 1,000 words a month.

The AI Detector tells you how your writing reads to a detector before anyone else runs one. You get a score with its margin of error, the sentences that drove it, the measurements behind each sentence, and a note when the result is unstable or the text sits outside what the model was calibrated on. It needs no account, and scans up to 10,000 characters at a time.

The Lexical Diversity checker measures vocabulary variety and then points at the specific causes - the verb used eleven times, the paragraphs that all open the same way, the run of sentences that are all one length. Free and no account. The vocabulary analysis runs entirely in your browser; an optional academic register check on the same page uses our server, and says so before you press it.

The Readability Checker runs six formulas at once - Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau and ARI - and shows what each is measuring rather than just a number. They disagree on purpose: when Gunning Fog reads years above Coleman-Liau, your words are long; when both are high, your sentences are. Free, no account, entirely in your browser.

Working with sources

The Citation Generator turns a DOI, ISBN, URL or title into a formatted reference in APA, MLA 9, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE or Vancouver, building from publisher records rather than guessing. The bibliography persists in your browser between visits, sorts and filters, and copies into Word with its italics and hanging indent intact. Free, no account.

The Paper Finder takes a DOI or a paper title and locates a legally free open-access copy if one exists - and tells you plainly when none does, instead of sending you somewhere dubious. It queries Crossref and Unpaywall from your browser. Free, no account.

The Title Case Converter capitalises a title to APA 7, MLA 9 or Chicago 17 - which disagree more than most people expect. APA capitalises any word of four letters or more, so it gives "Between" and "With"; MLA and Chicago decide by part of speech and leave those lowercase. It handles subtitles after a colon and hyphenated compounds, gives you sentence case alongside for reference-list entries, and flags the handful of words no converter can resolve without knowing your sentence.

The mechanical jobs around a deadline

The Word Counter gives words, characters, sentences and paragraphs with a reading level, reading time and speaking time. The Speech Calculator converts between a word count and a speaking duration at your own pace, which is the number you want when a talk has a hard time limit.

Image to Text pulls readable text out of a screenshot or photograph, and the PDF and Word converter moves documents between the two formats. Both run entirely in your browser: the file is never uploaded, which is why they work offline and why a confidential document stays confidential.

All four are free, need no account, and have no usage limit.

What costs money, and what does not

Everything on this page is usable for free. Two tools have ceilings: the Paraphraser at 1,000 words a month, and the AI Detector at 10,000 characters a scan.

Standard is $3.99 a month and raises those ceilings rather than unlocking a different product - 10,000 Paraphraser words a month with no daily cap, AI Detector scans up to 100,000 characters, batch scanning for up to 40 documents with CSV export, saved history, and no advertising anywhere on the site.

The free tool pages carry ads, which is what pays for the tools given away with no limit at all.

Common questions

Which tools work without an account?

Everything except the Paraphraser. The AI Detector, Citation Generator, Title Case Converter, Lexical Diversity checker, Readability Checker, Word Counter, Speech Calculator, Image to Text, PDF and Word converter, and Paper Finder all work without one. Only the Paraphraser needs a free account, because each rewrite is a real language-model call.

Which tools never send my text anywhere?

The Word Counter, Image to Text and the PDF/Word converter run entirely in your browser, so the text and the files never reach us. Lexical Diversity does too, except for its optional academic register check, which is opt-in and labelled. The Paraphraser, AI Detector and citation lookups need our server to do their work.

Is there a file size or document limit?

The AI Detector takes 10,000 characters a scan on the free plan and 100,000 on Standard - roughly four and forty pages. The Paraphraser works a paragraph at a time by design. The browser-side tools are bounded by your own device rather than by us.

Do the tools work on a phone?

Yes, including file uploads and the PDF reports. The one exception is batch scanning, which is built around a desktop file picker and a wide results table.

Can I use these for work rather than study?

Yes. The tools are shaped around academic writing because that is where the hard cases are, but nothing is restricted to students - reports, documentation and proposals all behave the same way.
